Help Keep the Musée Moving Forward
We are a living testament of Northern Maine cultural life and history. Through our collection and programming, the Musée brings to life the human stories and richness of a unique borderland in the most northeasterly corner of the United States.
The only way we’re able to do this is through the generosity of our supporters like you.
Your generosity helps to care for our nationally significant heritage site, ensure the longevity of our collection, support the execution of our brilliant exhibitions, and develop our educational and community programs, allowing us to become a site accessible to as wide an audience as possible. We humbly thank you for your steadfast support!
Your kind gift will go towards supporting:

Our Exceptional Collection
The Musée boasts an impressive collection of religious artefacts and vestments, sculptures, folk and decorative art, and Acadian and Québécois hard-pine furniture, with works dating as early as the eighteenth century. Notable works include leaded-wood sculptures of Archangels Michael and Gabriel carved by Louis Jobin, and architectural sketches in watercolor by Théophile Daoust. Also featured prominently within the collection is an assortment of Wolastoqiyik and Mi’kmaq handwoven basketry, many of which are finely crafted with porcupine quills, birchbark, ash tree, spruce roots, and sweetgrass.
Donate today and preserve such incredible works for future generations to enjoy.

Our Restoration Efforts
Since our founding in 1984, it has been our mission to restore and preserve the former Notre-Dame du Mont-Carmel and its adjoining structures that encompass today’s Musée culturel du Mont-Carmel. Unveiling these structures to their initial states when they were first constructed has been the primary objective of our ambitious project. We have welcomed many well-respected experts in the fields of conservation and art history, contributing significantly to our aims.
Donate today and help us enter the final stages of our restoration – a long-awaited milestone!

Our Programming & Exhibitions
The Musée strives to perform as a centre for education and reflection, community and cultural life. We develop and execute a wide range of public programs; these have included engaging exhibitions, specialist-led lectures, guided tours, as well as performance-based events such as dancing, traditional singing, music and concerts, and theatrical productions.
Donate today and help us ensure a robust museum experience for all!

Maine Acadian Culture
Acadian culture can be found throughout the Saint John Valley in Northern Maine’s Aroostook County and across the Saint John River in New Brunswick, Canada. Like their Louisiana equivalents, this Acadian community shares beliefs, traditions, and experiences tying them to a common religion, language, and history.
Regrettably, this community as endured challenges in preserving its heritage, suffering significant cultural erosion and intergenerational disconnect. This has stemmed from a legacy of systemic assimilation, where hegemonic regimes actively suppressed this French-speaking collective and marginalized them in wider historical historical narratives and written records.
Donate today and support our partnership with neighboring townships, historical societies, and cultural institutions as we work together to promote Maine Acadian culture in the Saint John Valley.
