Art After Dark: Musée by Moonlight – Midnight Mystique

The Musée culturel du Mont-Carmel is delighted to reveal a new and exciting program series: Art After Dark: Musée by Moonlight!
For the first time in decades, the Musée is dimming the lights and opening the doors for an immersive after-hours experience. This new program extends the hours of the museum into the night, taking place from 5 pm to 8 pm on the last Friday of each month (holidays permitting) during our Opening Season. We cordially invite our Northern Maine communities to gather their friends and family for a special evening with us and enjoy a host of activities and treats, like live performances and music, special tours and curator talks, lectures and conversations with guest speakers, artmaking activities, games and stories, light foods, and more!
A community-centered initiative blending art, culture, and nightlife, Musée by Moonlight aims to create special experiences and unexpected moments that bring us together and strengthen our bonds. Please join us for the premiere launch of Art After Dark: Musée by Moonlight, held just before Halloweekend. This program session is, appropriately themed Midnight Mystique, and will surely be a fa-boo-lous night goblins and ghouls of all ages will love!
Come enjoy a spooktacular evening of fang-tastic treats and activities!
Program Agenda:
Please read below for details on what to expect throughout the evening:
- 5:00 pm: Entry to the museum begins.
- 5:30 – 6:15 pm: Lecture and conversation on an uncanny moment in Acadian history. To be held in the Chapel.
- 6:45 pm: Halloween film screening begins with servings of popcorn, and will be held in the Chapel (Film title to be released later this month!)
- 8 pm: Musée by Moonlight ends and the museum begins closing.
All are free to wander the museum during both the lecture and film screening. Spotlight tours by candlelight will be offered during screening, but not during the lecture.
Halloween goodies and treats will be offered freely throughout the duration of the program. Guests will also be greeted with bone-chilling orchestral symphonies and ominous piano notes reverberating hauntingly throughout the vaults and Sanctuary!
Visitor Guidelines & Conduct
For the safety of the permanent collection and our guests, full face coverings, costumes with a large radius, glitter, and live flowers or other organic plant material are not permitted in the museum. Guests whose costumes do not meet these guidelines may be denied entry.
As the Saint John Valley edges closer to the winter months, we advise program attendees to dress warmly and/or bring a small blanket. The main space of the Sanctuary is unheated and is expected to be quite cool during your visit. The Chapel, however, will be comfortably heated. The lecture and film screening will be held in the Chapel for this reason.
We advise program attendees to take extra care when moving around, as passageways and aisles will be dimly lit for the purpose. For all information on the museum environment and accessibility measures, please visit this link: Plan Your Visit.
Please note: At this time, the upper choir loft and the stairwells within the bell-towers are closed to the public due to collection work.

Admission is free and/or by donation.
Your donation helps support the arts within Northern Maine, and contributes to the Musée’s mission of restoring and caring for a nationally significant heritage site, ensuring the longevity of its exceptional collection, the execution of its brilliant exhibitions, and the development of educational and community programs that aim to foster and safeguard Acadian culture of the Saint John Valley.
