The Musée is thrilled to share the remarkable progress currently underway at our new Gallery!
We have reached a pivotal moment in our institutional evolution following our purchase of the Parent family’s former General Store. We are meticulously transforming this site into the new cornerstone of our expanded campus, eventually serving as the home for our permanent collection and a dynamic space for rotating exhibitions.
Spanning three floors, this new venue will soon offer:
- Dynamic Galleries: Dedicated showrooms designed to not only display our collection, but to also integrate our own holdings with significant loans from peer museums and cultural institutions both local and afar. This will allow for nuanced object storytelling and thematic investigations, offering visitors unique opportunities to engage with cultural material in fresh, transformative ways.
- Period Rooms: Immersive exhibition rooms capturing the historical interiors and homestead living of 19th- and 20th-century Valley Acadians. Displayed will entail an amalgam of utilitarian objects and domestic décor, such as wooden looms and spinning wheels, rockers and sewn quilts, ceramics and hand-hewn iron cookware (forgé).
- Object-Encounter Spaces: Specialized rooms configured for immersive, tactile engagement with the museum’s artefacts, appealing to established and emerging researchers, student groups, and curious visitors alike of all ages.
- An Archival Library: A crowning feature of our Gallery, this top-floor study room will offer a tranquil setting for both private study and scholarly discovery with the museum’s archival records, while boasting spectacular 360-degree views overlooking the Saint John River.
We are excited to see this vision materialize as we broaden our collections accessibility and educational reach. Stay tuned for further updates as we endeavor to complete this transformative project.
