Help Keep the Musée Moving Forward

The contributions of our donors, patrons, and friends make what we do possible.
We humbly thank you for your generosity and support.

Your donation today plays a vital role in the Musée’s future, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Please consider making a tax-deductible gift of any amount to support our efforts and come see the difference you make!

Contribute to the Musée’s mission of restoring and preserving the former church of Notre-Dame du Mont-Carmel, the artefacts of its permanent collection, and the broader grounds of its former parish.

No contribution is too small and will go to work immediately. Your generous support is a critical source of funding that helps promote various institutional aims, which include but are certainly not limited to:

  • Restoring and preserving a unique example of North American French architecture.
  • Protecting and making accessible an extensive collection of artefacts and works dating as early as the 18th century.
  • Supporting and sustaining our public programming (i.e., exhibitions, educational lectures, concerts).
  • Maintaining the museum grounds and the institution’s administrative operations.
  • Improving our main exhibition space, the Galerie Lille-sur-St-Jean, which will house our permanent collection.

Gift a Historic Item

Along with financial support, the Musée welcomes gifts that are tangible personal property and are of historical significance associated with the Acadian and French Canadian history and culture of the St. John Valley of Northern Maine.

Many individuals and organizations prior have benefited the institution through their generous provision of such gifts, which have helped to build and strengthen the Musée’s permanent collection and have, thereby, been indispensable in supporting exhibitions, scholarly research, and educational programming.

After first contacting the Musée’s Director before sending in any items for evaluation, please ensure the following guidelines and parameters are adhered to in your historic item donation to the Musée. Deterrence from complying with these guidelines may result in the immediate rejection of a museum donation.

  • All items must align with our mission to preserve, study, develop, and celebrate the Acadian and Québecois culture and history of the St. John Valley in Northern Maine.
  • If an owner of a historic item(s) is donating for tax purposes, it is the responsibility of the donor to have their item(s) appraised prior to donation submission. We do not conduct appraisals.
  • Items that are of foremost consideration include the following:
    • Photographs and works on paper (i.e., books, manuscripts, drawings, letters, music)
    • Pine furniture (i.e., armoires, chairs, sculptures)
    • Artefacts (i.e., decorative, sacramental, occupational)
    • Textiles and fabrics (i.e., hand-sewn clothing, lacework, quilts)
  • Please include as much information as possible related to your item in your submission. This includes any and all material(s) that support the item’s provenance (i.e., chronology of ownership) and fabrication (i.e., origin). Insufficient supportive materials may result in the rejection of the donation.
  • Gifts to the museum must be made without restriction(s) with the title of the item transferred to the Musée. The Musée culturel du Mont-Carmel is operated by the Association culturelle et historique du Mont-Carmel, a 501 c (3) nonprofit organization.
  • The respective donor(s) must ensure their name(s) and contact information is included with the item(s) prior to their submission.

The Director of the Musée will determine the relevance of all items submitted for consideration and reserves the right to decline a donation.
