Visitation Guidelines & Conduct

The Musée culturel du Mont-Carmel aims to protect its visitors as well as preserve the integrity and longevity of its collections and facilities at all times. As such, we ask all visitors and individuals to adhere to the following guidelines when present on the museum grounds or within its doors.

General Standards

Please DO NOT TOUCH any of the Musée’s artefacts, for the slightest touch can be damaging! This includes the institution’s repertoire of furniture, fabrics, sculptures, decorative and arts objects, and sacramental objects. We also ask you to limit your physical contact with the main structure(s) of the Musée (i.e., walls, windows) to the best of your ability. As such, please ensure a respectable safe distance is maintained between yourself and our collections at all times.

We are actively engaged in carrying out meticulous restoration work. Please excuse our mess and be mindful of where you step.

Lighting and floor levels vary from one space to another throughout the institution, so please continue to watch your step.

Do not venture into areas or closures that are marked off or otherwise appear as off-limits to sightseeing.

Photo Policy

Still photography and video taken from a handheld device of our collections and of the site’s structure(s) are permitted for personal, non-distributional, non-commercial use. No photographic nor videographic development(s) may be reproduced, published, distributed, sold, transferred, or otherwise commercially exploited without written permission from the Musée.

Formal portraits, event photography, and any other commissioned photography require permission from the Musée and may include a fee.

For the safety of our visitors and for the safety and preservation of our collections and facilities, the Musée prohibits the use of photographic flashes, tripods, monopods, selfie sticks, or similar devices. This preventative measure is especially important on the occasion(s) of crowded conditions. Working members of the media who require the use of a tripod or monopod must obtain written permission from the Musée.

The use of model airplanes and unmanned aircraft (drones) for the purposes of photographic or videographic production within or over the property of the Musée is not permitted without the site’s permission and/or commission.

Bag Policy

Backpacks, large bags, and outside food or drink are not permitted within the Musée unless otherwise indicated (i.e., special events). Exceptions are made for medical or religious needs.

Smoking Policy

Smoking is strictly prohibited in all museum facilities and must not be conducted within 100 feet of the museum grounds. This includes e-cigarettes.

Pet Policy

Animals are not permitted within or on the museum grounds, with the exception of service animals. Emotional support, therapy, comfort, companion animals, and service animals in-training are not considered service animals under the guidelines of the ADA. Please ensure that your service animal is properly harnessed and under your control at all times.

Public Restrooms

An ADA-accessible, gender-neutral restroom is available in the southwest corridor that connects the chapel and the main church building.
